Thank Your Roof

Live.Laugh. Real Estate October 19, 2026

November tends to have a script. Mom asks what everyone’s grateful for. Grandpa mumbles something about his wife’s cooking. Half the table says family, the other half says health, and a seven-year-old says “my tablet” with total confidence and no shame whatsoever. Everyone nods at the adults and pretends they missed that. The potatoes keep moving.

All good answers. The tablet kid is arguably the most honest person at the table.

We’d like to make a case for a stranger one.

There Is a Number For This

Every year, the National Association of Realtors and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry put out something called the Remodeling Impact Report. It’s mostly what you’d expect. Costs, resale value, what buyers want.

Buried in it is a metric we think about more than we probably should, and it is called the Joy Score.

It works exactly how it sounds. They ask homeowners how they feel when they look at a finished project, and they score the answer from one to ten. Across every project type, the average lands at 8.2. Forty-three percent of homeowners say they feel happy. Another thirty-eight percent say satisfied.

An 8.2 out of 10. For construction.

The Perfect Tens Are Not What You’d Guess

Three projects scored a perfect 10. I bet with 3 guesses you get 2. They are an added primary bedroom suite, a kitchen upgrade, and, drumroll, please... new roofing.

The first two track. A bedroom suite is a small private kingdom. A kitchen is where everyone ends up gathering in spite of how much seating you put elsewhere.

But roofing? Roofing is the least romantic purchase available to a human being. It costs a fortune, your friends can’t see it, and the before-and-after photos look like two pictures of the same house.

And it scored a perfect 10.

Which tells you something real about how joy works in a home. It isn’t always about beauty. Sometimes it’s the sound of a storm coming through and the complete absence of a bucket on the floor.

Gratitude, The Unsentimental Version

Here’s what the Joy Score is really measuring, and it isn’t granite. It’s the feeling of having taken care of something. Of having looked at your own house, decided it deserved better, that you deserved better, and then followed through.

That’s available to you at any price point. It’s a repainted room. It’s the cabinet door that stopped hanging crooked after eleven months of it bothering you. It’s finally dealing with the thing you’ve been stepping around since you moved in.

Small projects show up in that data too, because joy is not a budget line.

Take Care Of What You Already Have

If gratitude for your house had a practical form, it would look like maintenance. Deeply unglamorous and honestly one of the best things you can do for a place you love.

That’s most of what our Live.Laugh.Thrive. hub is for. There’s an Annual Maintenance Calendar you can download, and a subscribable version that puts the reminders straight into your calendar so you stop carrying them around in your head.

No one’s ever regretted cleaning the gutters before the first freeze. We’ll stand behind that.

One Question Instead Of A Pitch

So here’s ours, and it’s the only thing we want from you this month. What’s the thing in your home that brings you disproportionate joy? The one that makes no financial sense and you’d do again tomorrow?

Tell us. We collect these. They’re better than any listing photo we’ve ever taken.

And if you’re sitting on a project you’ve been talking yourself out of, our door is open. Sometimes it helps to hear from someone who looks at houses all day that the thing you want is allowed to be the thing you do.

Happy November! Let’s all go outside and be grateful at our roofs.
